About This Journey
Etosha National Park centres on a vast salt pan visible from space — a 4,760 sq km white expanse that draws Namibia's iconic desert-adapted wildlife to its waterholes in extraordinary concentrations. Black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, and the endemic black-faced impala are reliably spotted at illuminated floodlit waterholes even after dark from camp lodges. The Okaukuejo, Halali, and Namutoni camps each have their own waterhole viewing areas. Nearby Damaraland offers desert elephant tracking and the Twyfelfontein rock engravings UNESCO site. Palmwag and Skeleton Coast (4–5 hrs) reward those extending further north. The town of Outjo serves as the southern gateway. Best visited May to October for dry season waterhole sightings at maximum wildlife density.

Etosha's waterholes draw mixed herds and predators into open viewing areas, making game drives highly rewarding for photography.

The vast salt pan creates one of Africa's most unusual safari backdrops, with pale horizons, mirage-like light, and stark beauty.

Selected camps offer evening waterhole viewing, where rhinos, elephants, lions, and other wildlife may appear after sunset.
