About This Journey
Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is India's oldest national park, established in 1936, and the birthplace of Project Tiger in 1973. Spread along the Ramganga River through sal forests, riverine grasslands, and the Shivalik foothills, Corbett offers some of the country's most consistent tiger sightings alongside elephants, leopards, gharials, and over 600 recorded bird species. The park's Dhikala zone is the crown jewel — a vast grassland core famous for tiger density — while Bijrani and Jhirna zones offer easier year-round access. Nearby Corbett Falls and the Garjiya Devi Temple on the Kosi River add scenic and spiritual detours. Nainital (1.5 hrs) extends the itinerary into the Kumaon hill station circuit. Best visited November to June; Dhikala zone typically stays closed during the monsoon (July to mid-November).

Corbett's core zone, Dhikala, is renowned for its high tiger density and sweeping grasslands along the Ramganga, making it one of India's most rewarding safari destinations.

The Ramganga reservoir draws large elephant herds and is home to gharials and marsh crocodiles, offering a dramatic waterside safari experience.

A tranquil forest waterfall near Ramnagar, Corbett Falls is a popular short trek and a scenic break from the safari circuit.

Bijrani and Jhirna zones offer year-round jeep safaris through sal forest and grassland, with excellent chances of tiger, elephant, and leopard sightings.
