About This Journey
The Silk Route in East Sikkim traces a historic trading path once used by traders moving goods between India, Tibet, and China. Today it's one of India's most dramatic road journeys, famous for the vertigo-inducing zigzag road at Zuluk that climbs the mountainside in over 30 hairpin turns. The route passes through Lungthung, offering sweeping sunrise views over the Kanchenjunga range, and continues to Kupup, home to the star-shaped Elephant Lake and one of the world's highest golf courses. Nearby, the stark, wind-swept Nathang Valley — often called "Mini Ladakh" — sits at over 13,000 feet surrounded by old army bunkers and grazing yaks. The circuit also includes the tranquil Menmecho Lake and the historic Old Baba Mandir, making this a journey as much about history and altitude as it is about scenery.
